If you have ever wanted to first-hand experience with the community responsibilities and legislative duties of a Member of Congress, than an internship in the office of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter may be the perfect experience for you.

Interning in a Congressional office will provide you with an unparalleled knowledge and understanding in the development of public policy and governmental affairs. Louise offers Congressional internships in Washington, D.C., and her Rochester office.

As an intern in Louise’s Washington office, you will draft letters to constituents, attend committee hearings, write summary briefs, research various issues for the legislative staff, and assist with office duties. Interns in Louise’s Rochester office work directly with the staff on issues involving constituent concerns and requests. In both offices, interns are given substantial responsibilities and are an integral part of the team.

To be eligible to intern, you must be a college students or recent graduate. Priority is given to residents of the 25^th Congressional District of New York, although all interested students are encouraged to apply. While there are deadlines for internship applications, we encourage you to submit your Internship Application as soon as possible.

Financial Aid

Students in college and parents- if you are applying for financial aid from the federal government, please take a moment and act today! It is very important that you submit your application for financial aid as soon as possible. Federal Student Aid is awarded on an "as needed basis", and those who apply first have the best chance and securing financial assistance.

Nomination to a United States Military Academy
Louise is able to nominate exceptional young men and woman who reside in her Congressional district to the United States Military Service Academies.

Congressional Arts Competition
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated in this creative competition.

All high school students in Louise’s district are eligible to compete in the New York 25^th Congressional District High School Art Contest. While the deadline for submissions for the 2013 Arts Competition has passed, the 2014 Arts Competition will begin in a matter of months.
