The Congressional Arts Competition is open to high school students only who reside in or attend school in the 28th Congressional District. All entries must be an original in concept, design and execution.

Congresswoman Slaughter invtes high school students living in the 28th Congressional District to participate in the annual congressional art competition, “An Artistic Discovery.” One entry will be selected to represent the 28th District of New York and will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol. The winning student will be invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony in the nation’s Capitol.

To enter the competition, please see the steps below.  Please note that all artwork must be original in concept, design and execution, and must not violate any US Copyright laws.

Step 1: Create artwork for submission to the competition. As you brainstorm, please keep in mind the following requirements.  Your artwork must:

  • Be two dimensional
  • Be no larger than 28 inches wide by 28 inches tall by 4 inches thick
  • Not weigh more than 15 pounds
  • Be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws.

Step 2: Deliver your artwork by Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 5 pm to one of the following locations: 

Rochester:

Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester NY

Please call Jeffrey Rodgers at (585) 232-4850 to coordinate the delivery of artwork in Rochester.

Niagara Falls:

Step 3: All entries will be collected for review at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester.  Judges selected by the Memorial Art Gallery will select a winner on or about April 20th.

Step 4: The winning artist will be invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at the US Capitol in Washington, DC.
